Alternative Impairment Rating Review

An Alternative Impairment Rating Review is an independent evaluation of an existing impairment rating to determine whether it was calculated correctly under the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (4th Edition).

Dr. Neil Szeryk provides objective reviews to verify the accuracy, methodology, and documentation used in determining impairment ratings.

Purpose of an Alternative Review

Impairment ratings play an important role in determining benefits in the Texas Workers’ Compensation system. An alternative review may be requested when clarification is needed about how the rating was calculated.

The review evaluates whether the original impairment rating:

  • Correctly applied the AMA Guides (4th Edition)

  • Included appropriate range-of-motion measurements when required

  • Properly used the Combined Values Chart

  • Accurately calculated the final Whole Person Impairment

What the Review Includes

An Alternative Impairment Rating Review may include:

  • Review of relevant medical records and prior reports

  • Evaluation of the impairment rating methodology

  • Verification of range-of-motion measurements

  • Confirmation of whole person impairment calculations

  • Clear documentation explaining the findings
